Aiming to support the entrepreneurship development of the Forest Management Unit (KPH) and the implementation of the Social Forestry Programme, FORCLIME in collaboration with the Forest Services of North and West Kalimantan Provinces carried out a study tour to the Malabar Mountain Coffee plantation in Pangalengan (West Java) on 29 September - 4 October 2019. The purpose of the visit is to increase the capacity of partners in the two provinces in coffee framing and coffee business development. 30 people representing the Forest Services of North and West Kalimantan Provinces (including KPH), the Center of Environmental and Forestry Education and Training of Samarinda (BDLHK Samarinda), FORCLIME, and forest farmer groups from the two provinces, participated in the field trip.

During the study tour, participants gained knowledge about: Coffee farming techniques, conservation and sustainable harvesting, community empowerment in coffee farming, post-harvest processing, Product and market development.

The session was concluded with an evaluation and the participants prepared a follow-up plan to apply the new knowledge at their respective working areas.

On 10-11 September 2019 the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), supported by FORCLIME, conducted a training on using the online planning system, which was developed by the National Planning Agency (Bappenas) in Jakarta. The online planning system, called Krisna, is a software developed by the Bappenas for all ministries and government bodies to support the preparation of their five year planning process. 80 participants representing the planning section of the ministry’s directorate general attended the training. The resource person for the training was the Director for System and Development Funding Procedure from Bappenas.

During the meeting FORCLIME expressed its commitment to support the MoEF strategic plan (Renstra) development processes. In addition, FORCLIME will also support in disseminating the final Renstra 2020-2024 once it has been issued by the minister’s decree.

Aiming to improve capacity of forest officials in Central Sulawesi, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry through the Directorate of Planning and Establishment of Forest Management Areas (RPPWPH) conducted a technical meeting to assist on operating and updating a new spatial information system related to forest management units (Sinpasdok KPH) on 2 – 3 October 2019 in Palu, Central Sulawesi. Sinpasdok KPH+ is an application for managing and updating data related to the operations of forest management unit (Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan-KPH). This data management is undertaken by KPH, additionally, it is controlled at central level. The event, supported by GIZ, was attended by 50 participants representing forest management units (KPH), provincial forestry services and technical implementation units of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

During the technical meeting, participants also obtained information about the revised national forestry plan 2011-2030 (RKTN 2011-2030), which to be used as a reference for preparing forest plan at province level, including at KPH.
