The Environment and Forestry Training Center (BD LHK) Samarinda collaborates with GIZ conducted a training for lecturers (Widyaiswara) from several BD LHK of Samarinda (East Kalimantan), Makassar (South Sulawesi), Bogor and Kadipaten (West Java), and Human Resource Training Center of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on 4-6 December 2017 in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. The training aims to increase their knowledge in identifying training needs relevant to forest management unit (KPH) development.

The training material that was presented included KPH policies and institutions; KPH Production performance standards; Financial Management Pattern for Sub-national Public Service Agencies (PPK-BLUD); Mapping on competency positions and standards at KPH management; Integration of FMU development and community empowerment; KPH competence in forest planning and Designing capacity building programmes for KPH.

In the opening ceremony, the Head of BD LHK Samarinda stated that BD LHK will have a strategic role in the human resource development of KPHs. Therefore, enhancing capacities of the lecturers is necessary and need to be planned to ensure continuity.

The Forest Management Unit (KPH) Berau Barat together with its partners, such as FORCLIME technical cooperation and financial cooperation, and local NGOs (Penjalin Foundation and Payo-Payo Foundation), validated the proposed location to carry out activities through a partnership scheme on 24-25 November in Berau district, East Kalimantan. The validation took place in order to accelerate the process of obtaining a legal basis for a Partnership Scheme in Batu Ranjang village. The parties involved in this partnership scheme are three farmers groups of Batu Rajang Village (Bangen Tawai, Pebeka Tawai, Tiga Tawai), which represent 76 households, and PT. Inhutani I Labanan, a forest concession. After the visit, they agreed on a potential location of ± 1,705 hectares, which then will be determined after conducting negotiations between farmer groups of Batu Rajang and concession holder. Afterwards, a Cooperation Agreement document will be signed.

Batu Rajang village in Berau district, East Kalimantan was selected as model in developing and implementing a partnership scheme, which is carried out by the KPH Berau Barat and is based on the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.83 / 2016 on Social Forestry.

FORCLIME facilitated an Environmental Journalism Training in Palu, Sulawesi on 28 November to 1 December. The training aims to strengthen the outreach and communication strategy of Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve  in Central Sulawesi, it is part of FORCLIME’s overall strategy to improve and strengthen the self-sustainability and management of the park. The training was attended by 21 participants, representing the National Park, the Grand Park, Forest Management Units and local stakeholders from the Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve.

The training covered free writing, storytelling, news articles, blogging, photography and videography. After the four days of in class training and practices, the training is continued off class for the next two months through online group coaching with the target of having articles published in local media and personal blogs.

Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve, declared by UNESCO in 1977, lays in the heart of Sulawesi and covers four districts (Sigi, Poso, Parigi Moutong and Donggala) with the Lore Lindu National Park as its core zone.
