FORCLIME has been supporting the Human Resources Training Center for Environment and Forestry and the Environmental and Forestry Training Center (BP LHK) in the development of eLearning since 2014. The progress of eLearning development in different BP LHK has varied due to the fact that the conditions of institutions and training target groups in each region also vary.
To align eLearning development across various BP LHK, FORCLIME, working in collaboration with the Environmental and Forestry Training Center in Makassar (BP LHK Makassar), South Sulawesi, held a Workshop on the Preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for eLearning Implementation which was held at the BP LHK Office Makassar on 10 August 2023. The workshop was attended by around 25 participants that included officials, as well as lecturers and staff from the Makassar LHK Training Center and staff and teachers from the Makassar State Forestry Vocational School.
Issues discussed during the workshop included: (1) Measures relating to the implementation of eLearning, (2) Distribution of roles and responsibilities during the implementation of eLearning, and (3) Quality assurance during the implementation of eLearning. Information gathered during the workshop will ultimately be used in order to prepare SOPs on the implementation of eLearning for the Makassar Environment and Forestry Training Center, as well as for other environment and forestry training centers.
The results of the workshop will also be compiled and reported to the Head of the Extension and Human Resources Development Agency (BP2SDM) as input for the development of eLearning at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in the future.

With the ultimate goal of increasing the protection of biodiversity through forest management, the West Papua Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA), supported by FORCLIME, recently completed an orchid survey on Mount Bamusbama, Gunung Tamrau Utara Nature Reserve, Tambrauw Regency. The purpose of this activity was to collect data on orchid species, in addition to being useful in terms of the management of conservation areas. The survey should also prove useful for policymakers in terms of expanding the overall development concepts for Provincial Strategic Areas (KSP) and the Crown Jewels of the Land of Papua (MPTP). The survey activities were carried out from 25 July to 5 August 2023.
The survey results covered a collection of 233 specimens that encompassed 233 species from 36 genera. Some of these are suspected new species, specifically Bulbophyllum from the Intervallatae section and Dendrobium from the Grastidium section.
The survey results will be presented during an online meeting that is set to be held in October and to which relevant parties from the provincial and national levels will be invited.

As a follow-up to the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 28/2023 on Integrated Planning for the Acceleration of Social Forestry Management, the Directorate of Planning, Use and Establishment of Forest Management Areas (RPPWPH) at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry held a meeting in order to prepare a Social Forestry Macro Plan (RMPS) from 1 - 2 August 2023 in Bogor, West Java. The meeting took the form of a focus group discussion (FGD) and was attended by the Director-General of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships (PSKL), as well as 35 participants who were representing the Directorate-General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management (PKTL), a number of academics from IPB and Gajah Mada Universities, the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM), Inhutani V, Perhutani, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Planning Bureau and FORCLIME. The meeting aimed to gather inputs from participants and experts who will become key components during the implementation of the Social Forestry programme throughout Indonesia.
The meeting was opened by the Director of Planning and Use of Forest Areas and Establishment of Forest Management Areas, Ir. Roosi Tjandrakirana, M. SE., who confirmed that up until the present time, no long-term plan for social forestry management had been made available, meaning that the preparation of the RMPS was vital.
During his speech, the Director-General of PSKL explained that the Social Forestry Macro Plan represented a set of guidelines that will be used during planning for the implementation of social forestry during the next 20 years in line with Presidential Decree No. 28/2023, which sets out a roadmap for the accelerated distribution of social forestry access and medium- to long-term planning up until 2030. To date, social forestry realization data covers around 5.6 million hectares of the overall target of 12.7 million hectares. The remaining 7.1 million hectares of this target will be achieved by 2030 through various strategies and regulations, including the Macro Social Forestry Plan.
After this meeting, a series of follow-up meetings will be held with the aim of finalizing the macro plan before the end of the year. In this case, FORCLIME will contribute to the process of completion of the Social Forestry Macro Plan, including the provision of experts and expertise.
