Continuing the process of preparing proposals and feasibility studies for climate funding projects for the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the West Kalimantan Provincial Government organized an FGD to discuss supporting documents for the GCF Proposal on 6 – 7 September 2023 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The supporting documents discussed at the meeting comprised: Policy and Institutional Framework for Forest and Land Management; Climate Risk and Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA); Gender Assessment and Action Plan (GA-GAP). In addition, this meeting also aimed to connect and build communication among provincial parties, as well as solicit input on the various documents that are currently being prepared. The hybrid meeting was attended by resource personnel responsible for the drafting of the supporting documents, in addition to various division heads from the Provincial Environment and Forestry Service, who delivered presentations and discussions directly, with the exception of gender-related discussions, which were conducted online.
The preparation of the supporting documents is being conducted in line with an overall project design that aims to: 1) Strengthen the policy and institutional framework through informed planning in terms of climate-related issues; 2) Improve and expand learning regarding climate-resilient agricultural and agroforestry practices; 3) Improve community-based forest and land management.
The FGD was opened by the Secretary of the West Kalimantan Environment and Forestry Service, Mr. Amung Hidayat, SP, M.Sc., and was attended by the REDD+ Working Group, as well as the team responsible for the compiling of the supporting documents, specifically Prof. Dr. Bramasto Nugroho (Policy and Institutional Framework for Forest and Land Management), CCROM-IPB (Climate Risk and Vulnerability Study) and Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni (Gender Studies and Action Plans), and also by representatives from several provincial agencies, as well as a number of academics and development partners.
The results of this FGD will be used to improve the supporting documents. The revised documents will be submitted by the end of September 2023 and will become part of the full proposal that will ultimately be submitted to the GCF.

Learning Management Systems (LMS) have become a highly important tool within the context of modern education and training. One of the most popular and widely used LMS platforms by various educational institutions and organizations around the world is Moodle. This platform boasts various features and functions that enable managers and administrators to manage, deliver and track learning activities efficiently. To utilize Moodle’s full capabilities, users must ensure that they have a full understanding of the governance and administration of this platform. To promote such understanding, the Environment and Forestry HR Training Center (Diklat LHK) and the Environment and Forestry Training Center (BP LHK), supported by FORCLIME, held a recent training session on the use of Moodle by LMS Administrators and LMS Training Managers, who attended the session from Training Centers and BP LHK located throughout Indonesia. The training session was opened by the Head of the Training Development – Environment and Forestry HR Training Center, Dr. Gamin, and was held from 9 - 11 September 2023 at the HR Training Center in Bogor, West Java. The session was attended by 20 participants.
During the training, participants learned about basic Moodle configurations and settings, including user management, access rights and various different roles. Participants also gained an understanding of the utilization of Moodle's many features, including course creation, grading and feedback settings, and the monitoring of student progress. With this knowledge, participants should be able to use Moodle more effectively and provide optimal learning experiences for users in the future.
“With updated training materials now being available from trainers, as well as the ability of trainers to answer highly technical questions, new insights can be gained into a more effective use of LMS, including configuration and basic Moodle settings,” explained Purnama Sofyan, an LMS administrator working at the Environment and Forestry HR Training Center.
In the wake of this training session, participants are expected to increase their operational efficiency, improve the overall user experience and achieve desired learning objectives.

In an effort to support the implementation of the national programme on Social Forestry within the province of Southwest Papua, the Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership Agency (BPSKL) of Maluku-Papua Section II Region, working in conjunction with FORCLIME, has been providing facilitation for forest farmer groups (KTH) in FORCLIME supported villages in the regency of Tambrauw, specifically the villages of Emmaus and Bikar. Recent activities in these areas included the dissemination of information relating to the Social Forestry schemes, which took place from 27 – 30 August 2023. This activity was attended by the BPSKL Maluku Papua Section II Region and the Tambrauw Production Forest Management Unit (KPHP), as well as by the relevant village governments, traditional leaders, community leaders and owners of customary land rights from the two villages. During the meeting, the Head of BPKSL Maluku Papua Region II, Mrs. Lilian Komaling S.Hut., M.Sc., gave a presentation on the Social Forestry schemes that addressed the benefits, advantages, weaknesses and challenges of the five existing schemes.
The Social Forestry Programme will open up opportunities for communities around forests to apply for forest management rights from the government. The overall aim in this regard is to improve community welfare while protecting forests. Since 2021, FORCLIME has been supporting KTH within the two villages in question. The activities that are being carried out within the two villages are aimed at increasing the capacities of the relevant KTH in an attempt to improve the local economy through alternative livelihoods that involve non-timber forest products.
As a follow-up to this activity, KTH in both villages will be assisted during efforts to determine suitable social forestry schemes that match up with the conditions and potentials of their respective areas. Moreover, relevant agencies other than BPSKL Maluku Papua Section II Region and KPHP Tambrauw are also set to become involved in this initiative.
