Forests and Climate Change Programme, Technical and Financial Cooperation (FORCLIME TC-FC) Modules, conducted a coordination meeting to harmonise their work plans to support the Strategic Plan of 2015-2019 of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry on 7-8 February 2019 in Yogyakarta. More than 40 participants attended the meeting and, they represented the technical directorate generals of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, as well as local partners from West, East and North Kalimantan.

FORCLIME TC and FC will continue to support the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, such as forest management unit development, the social forestry programme and capacity building in regard to forest management operations.

As part of agenda visit to Indonesia, the representatives of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) went to the FORCLIME site in Palu, Central Sulawesi on 29 – 31 January. In addition to witnessing the progress of FORCLIME activity implementation in Palu and Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve, the delegation also visited Lere village where FORCLIME assists the participatory village mapping.

The participatory village mapping, which is based on the Disaster-Prone Zone Map from the government, aims to support the community in having a better understanding of their village situation after the Tsunami. The participatory mapping process includes documenting the current situation, additionally, recording the community’s ideas for the future of their village.

Lere village, one of six villages in the West Palu Subdistrict has a population of 11.512 people (data 2017), it is the most populated village in the greater Palu area.  Since it is situated exactly at the tip of the Palu Basin, Lere was impacted severely from the deadly Tsunami on 28th of September 2018. Next to a tremendous loss of human life, a significant number of houses, buildings, facilities and village infrastructure have been destroyed.

Aiming to coordinate forest and land fire prevention programmes in its area, the Kubu Raya Forest Management Unit (KPH Kubu Raya) conducted a meeting with its partners to build understanding and share roles related to forest fire prevention efforts within its working area. The meeting was carried out on 21 January 2019 at the Pontianak Manggala Agni Daops Office, West Kalimantan, and was attended by 47 representatives from the West Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service, the forest fire brigade (Manggala Agni Daops) Pontianak, the Kubu Raya Regional Disaster Management Agency and the Fire Brigade of KPH Kubu Raya. The meeting was held in collaboration between the KPH Kubu Raya with the consulting company, EcoConsult, and FORCLIME.

The meeting started with tree planting in the Daops Manggala Agni office complex, followed by a visit to parts of the complex allocated as education place for the forest and land fire prevention programme. At the end of the meeting, the participants agreed to share data and information to strengthen the forest and land fire early warning system, in addition to developing a model village to encourage community participation in the prevention of forest and land fires.
