The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has started work on revising the National Forestry Plan (RKTN) 2011 - 2030. This revision is seen as essential to ensuring that the plan remains relevant, effective and in line with current national priorities and international commitments. Based on existing regulations, the Forestry Plan must be evaluated during its implementation in order to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the plan’s various established activities. These evaluations are carried out at least once every five years, while the revision process involves comprehensive evaluations of the current plan. The evaluations take account of any changes that have been made to regulations, policies and performance over the past five years in order to provide a roadmap for sustainable forestry development within Indonesia until 2030.

In line with these goals, the Directorate-General of Forestry Planning and Environmental Management (DG PKTL) MoEF, supported by FOLU Net Sink’s 2023 Project and FORCLIME, organized a two-day meeting that was held from 2 – 4 July 2024 in Jakarta. The purpose of the event was to coordinate and harmonize plans with stakeholders operating within the forestry sector, as well as to discuss directions, policies, strategies and targets for forest management and forestry administration. The goal was to gather input from relevant parties in order to provide inputs for the revision of the RKTN for the 2011 – 2030 period.

As a follow-up to this meeting, the DG PKTL will organize a series of FGDs in order to further refine its plans that will be held with relevant stakeholders and experts in order to ensure the document's accuracy, relevance and alignment with current forestry management objectives and policies.

FORCLIME recently demonstrated its support for the celebration of World Environment Day in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi in collaboration with the Sigi Regency Government through the Forestry Service and Tourism Office, as well as with the SMAN 6 state high school. The celebrations involved a series of activities, including tree planting and the return of orchids to their natural habitat (restocking). The orchid restocking was carried out in the Ranjuri Ancient Forest, which has been designated as one of Central Sulawesi’s Biodiversity Parks. The restocking of orchids in the Ranjuri ancient forest aims to enrich the forest and increase public awareness regarding the importance of protecting the forest and its contents.

In order to monitor the development and condition of the orchids that have been returned to the forest, the Sigi Regency Government, supported by FORCLIME, organized various monitoring activities, which were implemented by students and teachers from SMAN 6 Sigi Regency, as well as by the various parties responsible for the restocking of the orchids. Said monitoring activities were inaugurated by the Head of the Sigi Regency Tourism Office, Mr. Heru Murtanto, S.Pd., and were carried out over a period of one month commencing 28 June 2024 (Phase I). The activities carried out included the identification of planted orchids, as well as their regular maintenance and fertilization. In addition to observing the development of orchids planted in the Ranjuri ancient forest, a guidebook will also be created as a result of this monitoring activity and will contain instructions that interested community groups will be able to use to restock orchids on their own initiative.

"This orchid restocking monitoring aims to ensure orchid plants can grow and develop optimally," said Deputy Head of SMAN 6 for curriculum, Mrs. Fitri Daryanti, S.Pd., M.Pd. "We also express our gratitude to GIZ for supporting this programme," she added.

The restocking will be followed up by the activities listed below:
1. Further monitoring of the development of the planted orchids will be carried out.
2. Outreach efforts will be organized in communities living around the Ranjuri ancient forest and will address the orchid restocking process.
3. Progress reports on the orchid restocking process will be drawn up.

The Climate Village Programme (Proklim) is a national programme that is being organised by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). This programme is intended to encourage climate change adaptation and mitigation actions and efforts at the ground level. During its implementation, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry is collaborating directly with various local governments as implementers and communities as active participants. Community involvement at the site level, whether at the village or hamlet levels, is seen as one of the keys to successful control of climate change. Adaptation to climate change encompasses control over droughts, floods and landslides, working to increase food security and tackling climate-related diseases. The various types of climate change mitigation actions that can be carried out in villages include waste management, uses of new energy and energy conservation, low-emissions agricultural cultivation, increasing and maintaining vegetation cover, as well as preventing and handling forest and land fires (Karhutla).

Sigi Regency is one of the Indonesian districts that is actively participating in this programme. To support Proklim and strengthen the buffer area of the Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve (CBLL), the Sigi Regency Government organised an outreach session on Proklim, which was held on 28 June 2024 in Makmur Village, Palolo Sub-District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. The event was opened by the Secretary of the Sub-District Head, who is currently acting Head of Palolo District, Mr. Kasirun, S.Sos., MM., and was attended by various village government officials from Palolo Sub-District.

During the event, the Sulawesi Region Climate Change, Forest and Land Fire Control Center delivered a presentation that specifically addressed the definition, legal basis and objectives of Proklim. The goal was to provide the village government officials present with some understanding of efforts to implement the programme.

This dissemination event will be followed with a Proklim proposal and assessment in accordance with Regulation of the Directorate-General of Climate Change Control P4./2021 on Guidelines for the Implementation of the Climate Village Programme. Locations that can be proposed and assessed as Climate Villages are villages that have implemented sustainable climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts for more than two years and that have formed community groups/communities that are responsible for activities in this area.
