For the purpose of environmental management in West Kalimantan province, the Provincial Service of Public Housing, Settlement and Environment conducted a meeting to discuss the draft of the Regional Regulations on Environmental Protection and Management Plan (Perda RPPLH) on 12 November in Pontianak. The event was a continuation of the previous discussions held in August and October. This meeting aims to get input on the draft regulation. 60 participants attended the meeting, representing local governments, academia and environmental activists from West Kalimantan, and the Drafting Team. The event was organized by the Provincial Service of Public Housing, Settlement and Environment in collaboration with FORCLIME.
On his opening speech, the Head of Provincial Service of Public Housing, Settlement and Environment, stressed that the drafted regulation has an important function to harmonize policies related to environmental management, to avoid overlapping regulations, claiming authority, and avoid contradictions in case environmental problems occur.
Afterwards, the meeting’s results will be discussed with the local parliament to determine a Regional Regulation of West Kalimantan Province.

The West Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service conducted discussions with its local partners to discuss the draft Regional Regulation (Perda) on Forest Management in West Kalimantan. The Perda was prepared at the initiative of the local parliament based on the Law No. 23 of 2014 which stipulates the authority of forest management to move to the provincial government. The discussion, held in Pontianak on 19 November, aims to improve the draft Perda based on empirical experiences in the realm of forest management. The meeting, supported by IDH West Kalimantan and GIZ, was attended by natural resource management and forestry development partner institutions in West Kalimantan as well as technical implementation units of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in the province.

The Center for Planning and Development of Human Resources (Pusrenbang) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), together with GIZ, conducted a National Convention on Drafting the National Standard of Job Competency (RSKKNI) for Technical staff for Sustainable Production Forest Management (Ganis PHPL) on October 24-26 in Bogor. The event is the final stage of the process of drafting the SKKNI, in addition to obtain recognition and acceptance nationally. 60 people attended the event representing the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, experts, professional certification institutions, education and training institutions and industry / field practitioners.
On his remarks, the Head of the Pusrenbang SDM emphasized the importance of the National Standard of Job Competency of the technical staff for the sustainable forest management, considering that the forest industries need to be managed professionally by field competent personnel, therefore, sustainable forest management can be achieved.
Results of the convention will be submitted to the Ministry of Manpower for further stipulation through the Minister of Manpower Decree. While communicating the competency will be formulated through the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation.
