Intending to accomplish a better village forest management, the community of Menua Sadap village, West Kalimantan, established the Social Forestry* Business Group (KUPS). The initiation of KUPS was held on 30 July in Karangan Bunut, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. KUPS is formed so that management and business decisions can be taken on micro-level and the maximum potential of forest resources is being used., additionally, conducting evaluation processes will be easier. Six business groups were developed for the Menua Sadap Village Forest , focusing on honey production, agroforestry products, ecotourism, production of waiving fabrics using natural dyes, rattan products and fisheries. These business groups will implement activities described on the Village Forest Management Plan.
The establishment of these business groups is supported by FORCLIME, which will then provide support by offering thematic trainings.

*Social Forestry (Perhutanan Sosial) constitutes forest management system where the local community actively participate to improve their welfare as well as protect forest which supports their life. Through the social forestry programme, the community will be involved in forest management processes: planning, utilizing and marketing. The community has rights to manage the forest area with certain requirements.
Aiming to increase the capacity of its lecturers (widyaiswara) and staff, the Center for Environmental and Forestry Education and Training of Samarinda (BD LHK Samarinda) conducted a study tour to the FORCLIME working area in Berau District on 25-27 July. Eight participants visited the Berau Barat Forest Management Unit (KPH Berau Barat) and villages supported by the FORCLIME financial cooperation module (FC module): Labanan Makmur, Labanan Makarti and Merasa. The study tour was conducted collaboratively between the BD LHK Samarinda and the FORCLIME technical cooperation (TC module) and and financial cooperation (FC module).
In his remarks, the Head of BD LHK Samarinda highlights that widyaiswara have to take this opportunity to gather as much information as possible from the field to enhance the teaching materials.
The final agenda of the study tour is a one-day workshop on the lessons learned documentation related to forest management at FMU and community development practices in the villages visited. Participants of the workshop were the BD LHK Samarinda team, KPH Berau Barat, Field Facilitators of the FC Module and representatives from the visited villages. Workshop participants agreed to prepare three lessons learned documents: (1) The role of KPH Berau Barat in community empowerment; (2) Experiences of the FORCLIME FC module in participatory boundary mapping and participatory land use planning; (3) Development of the Prosperity Approach through agroforestry practices. The lessons learned documents are scheduled to be completed by early September 2018.

The Directorate of Protected Forest Management Unit (KPHL) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), supported by FORCLIME, conducted a workshop to finalize its Long-term Forest Management Plan (RPHJP) on 25-26 July 2018 in Putussibau, West Kalimantan. The meeting also aimed to harmonize the management plan with programme activities of organizations working in Kapuas Hulu district, particularly FORCLIME. 30 participants representing relevant government services of Kapuas Hulu district, the Planning Bureau of MoEF, technical units of MoEF in West Kalimantan, KPH Kapuas Hulu Selatan and KPH Kapuas Hulu Timur.
The Director of KPHL, Mr Hargyono, MSc., encouraged KPH Kapuas Hulu Utara to finalize its forest management plan after the workshop quickly. As a consequence, the Verification Team of the MoEF can assess the document and issue the approval.
The final agenda of the workshop is a field visit on the 2nd day to the KPH Kapuas Hulu Utara working area: Learning Center of Village Forest at Mensiau village and land rehabilitation site.
