The West Kalimantan Province government together with FORCLIME Technical Cooperation (TC) conducted a training on Safeguards Information System (SIS) – REDD+ on 30 March 2017 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. This activity is as part of REDD readiness for the province in the transition phase towards full implementation of REDD+ performance based payment in 2020. The training is also important for West Kalimantan since the province is keen to promote green development initiative, additionally, it is a member of the Governor Climate Forum (GCF). There were 60 training participants represented provincial and district governments, private sectors, bilateral cooperation programmes and non-governmental organizations. One of the key resource persons was Mr. Haryo Pambudi, from the Directorate of Climate Change Mitigation, Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

The Forest Management Unit (FMU) of Malinau initiated a coordination meeting with its development partners and their respective programmes through the "FMU Malinau Dialogue" on 21 March 2017. The meeting was aimed to harmonize the programmes of organizations that have activities in Malinau District, North Kalimantan, in order to be inline and supporting the key performance indicator achievements of the FMU Malinau. The dialogue was attended by representatives of projects in Malinau, such as  Millennium Challenge Account-Indonesia (MCAI)/Yayasan Biosfer Manusia (BIOMA), WWF Indonesia, Forum Musyawarah Masyarakat Adat (FoMMA), (Ikatan Penyuluh Agroforestry Malinau (IPAMA), FORCLIME, ADB Project. During the event, invited organizations presented their achievements in 2016, as well as their work plan for 2017.

In his speech, the Head of FMU Malinau, Mr Impung Lian, said that communication and coordination are expected to build a common understanding and perception in supporting the FMU development. In addition, such meetings support the joint learning through knowledge sharing and discussion on the FMU development, and the progress of programmes implemented by other parties.

Output of this dialogue were that such meeting shall be conducted periodically and will involve wider participants, such as forest concession companies of natural and plantation forests, communities, relevant local governments. In addition, another output from the dialogue was to establish a "data base" to collect data and information related to programmes and activities of parties irelated  to FMU development in Malinau.

Through collaboration with its non-government partners including FORCLIME, GEF-Sumatran Tiger Project, WCS-IP and USAID-LESTARI, the Directorate of Conservation Area of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) conducted a refresher training on Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) for 30 trained METT Facilitators on 20-23 March 2017 in Bogor.  During the training, participants also were involved in finalizing the guide book on METT based on their experience from the assessment processes in their respective duty station. In addition, participants obtained knowledge on “Asset-Based Thinking” from INSPIRIT, a facilitation consulting company, to improve capacities on facilitation philosophy and techniques. The MoEF expects that its target on improved effective management of 260 protected areas can be achieved by 2019.
