The Coordination and Communication Forum of Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve, supported by FORCLIME, conducted a coordination meeting on 3 March 2021 in Palu, Central Sulawesi. The meeting discussed implemented activities and follow up plans, particularly related to promoting sustainable products including the environmental services from the biosphere reserve. The meeting, which opened by the Head of BAPPEDA (local development planning agency) as the Chairman of the Coordination and Communication Forum, attended by 25 participants representing provincial government officials and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) members.

The Head of BAPPEDA, Mr. Faizal Mang, said on the meeting that a better quality and promotion will improve marketing and price of products and services, which then will lead to increase income and reduce poverty. Branding biosphere product as sustainable product will be contributed to that. Furthermore, he said the Coordination and Communication Forum, supported by GIZ, will facilitate to improve quality and promotion of products from the biosphere reserve.

As the follow up from the meeting, the Forum will develop a database of products and services that already put the biosphere logo on their products to avoid misuse of the logo that currently happened. In the meantime, SMEs that intend to put the Biosphere logo have to register. In addition, the Forum will enlist the Biosphere logo to the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights for property rights purposes. Furthermore, the meeting also agreed to review the current management plan and will develop 2025 Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve roadmap.

The West Kalimantan REDD+ working group, supported by FORCLIME, developed a Concept Note for funding from the Global Climate Funding (GCF), which was submitted on December 2020 with title “To strengthen the provincial mitigation action to support national climate change target and a jurisdictional approach in REDD+”.
Aiming to response the feedback from the GCF Secretariat related to submitted Concept Note, the West Kalimantan Forestry Service conducted a meeting on 23 February 2021 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The meeting that attended by representatives from academics, local NGOs and provincial government officials discussed about issues related to peatland and mangrove management, as well as climate change adaptation, to be added on the Concept Note revision. Results from this meeting will be discussed during the meeting with the Secretariat of GCF on 26 February 2021.

Following the signing of the Implementation Agreement for Forests and Climate Change Programme (FORCLIME) Technical Cooperation module, a kick-off meeting for FORCLIME 4.0 was conducted on 29 – 30 January 2021 through blended online and offline meeting. The meeting was led by the Planning Bureau of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) as the project executing agency of the Programme. FORCLIME 4.0 will have similar strategic areas as previously, namely: forest policy, sustainable forest management, human capacity development and supporting biosphere reserve in Central Sulawesi. However, for this FORCLIME 4.0, the location is shifting from Kalimantan to Papua and West Papua provinces in addition to Central Sulawesi. Participants of more than 50 people consist of representatives from the relevant MoEF directorates, local partners in Central Sulawesi, Papua and West Papua provinces, as well as FORCLIME staff. After the kick-off, that formalized by the Planning Bureau of MoEF, participants actively provided inputs for the Strategic Plan of FORCLIME 4.0. The discussion continued until the second day to harmonize the strategic workplan with partners’ strategic plan. The final document will be sent to the Head of Planning Bureau for signing and later will be used as a basis for preparing annual work plan of FORCLIME 4.0.

"I really appreciate the process of preparing the FORCLIME 4.0 strategic plan, aspect of forest conservation, especially related to Lore Lindu, is the main activity of this programme", said Mr Jusman, the Head of Lore Lindu National Park before the session is closed by the official from the Planning Bureau of MoEF.
