The Samarinda Center for Forestry Education and Training (BDK), in collaboration with GIZ FORCLIME, conducted a meeting last November presenting the BDK curriculum that had been prepared collaboratively by both parties. The developed curriculum is going to be used for training related to forest boundary mapping and measuring of carbon stock based on the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) applications. Also, the curriculum is going to support the preparation of training programmes for Forest Management Unit (FMU) development and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) activities.
The meeting was attended by resource persons from the Directorate General of Forestry Planning, the Ministry of Forestry, as well as mapping experts from the Bandung Institute of Technology. During the discussion experts and resource persons provided inputs for improvement of the curriculum, which will later be submitted to the Head of Center of Forestry Education and Training (CFET) at the Ministry of Forestry for endorsement. The curriculum discussed will be pilot-tested in 2014.
