In order to generate a similar perception and preparing the examinations on forestry vocational practices for the forestry vocational school (SMKK) students, the Center of Forestry Education and Training (CFET) in collaboration with GIZ FORCLIME conducted a workshop on standardization of competency test for forestry vocational students on 12 to 13 February 2015 in Bogor. The workshop was attended by 60 participants including the Principals of SMKK and auditors who conducted competency tests for SMKK. The auditors carried out “competency tests” for students who will have to complete the national examination on forestry vocational practices.
The workshop discussed about various technical issues to test the competence of vocational students. Resources persons for the workshop were experts from the CFET and the National Agency for Education Standards (BSNP).
To broaden knowledge of the forestry vocational teachers, Dr. Pipin Permadi from GIZ FORCLIME delivered a presentation on the development of forest-based renewable energy. Renewable energy is i is being promoted in Indonesia to meet national energy needs while supporting efforts to reduce carbon emissions. At the forestry vocational schools, the renewable energy development has become one of the subjects that was introduced to the students, moreover, the SMKK in Kadipaten has already a laboratory for the development of wood pellets, which is one example for forest-based renewable energy.

With the aim to improve the capacities of Forest Management Unit (KPH) staff, the Forestry Training Centre (BDK) of Bogor in collaboration with GIZ FORCLIME organized a workshop for preparing a curriculum for conducting training related to community empowerment on 28-29 January 2015 in Bogor. BDK aims to develop a curriculum community empowerment training in accordance with the needs on the ground and the Indonesian National Competence Standard. The workshop was attended by 20 representatives of officials and trainers of the BDK Bogor. To enhance the understanding of the participants on the implementation of community empowerment programme on the ground, Ali Mustofa, one of FORCLIME Advisers for community-base forest management shared his experience in assisting village forest development in districts of Malinau (North Kalimantan) and Kapuas Hulu (West Kalimantan).
Participants have identified competencies that need to be acquired by KPH staff with regard to community development, such as: institutional management, entrepreneurship and area management. To follow up the workshop, participants agreed that: (1) The developed draft competence will be consulted with community empowerment experts; (2) Need to conduct field visit to KPHs for cross checking the competencies list with the reality at the field; and (3) Following points 1 and 2, a draft curriculum for the community development training will be submitted to the Center for Forestry Training and Education for endorsement.

Ali Mustofa, Adviser for Community-based forest management
CFET-Director Dr. Agus Justianto and Head of Training Planning Section, Erfan N. Yulian and FORCLIME Adviser for Human Capacity Development Anne-Cathrin Vonarx attended the ONLINE EDUCA in Berlin. From 3rd to 5th of December 2014 they share their experiences with implementation of E-Learning with organizations from various countries all around the world. Beside discovering new digital innovations to enhance learning the CFET and FORCLIME representatives attend the GIZ E-Learning Academy workshop. Together with partners from Philippines, Argentina and Georgia to name only a few they discussed how a future, global platform from GIZ on Capacity Development for E-Learning could be look like. This event was also used to set up of collaborations with other training organizations using E-Learning technologies. As a result of that the Center of Forestry Education and Training discusses possibilities for a cooperation with the Open University of Philippines.
ONLINE EDUCA brought together 2,332 delegates from 100 countries, 330 speakers and 81 exhibitors. It focused on the future learning scenarios and the opportunity that the variety of technology supported learning brings. Dr. Agus Justianto was especially interested in 3D virtual learning environments: “Gamification. That is one of the new learning concepts I will bring to Indonesia. It could a great tool for our trainees to experience challenges within the Forests Management Units”. Anne-Cathrin Vonarx added: “The new technology provides tools which involve the learners creativity and intrinsic motivation. To guarantee a more sustainable acquisition of competencies, training organizations, like CFET, are taking up the challenge to develop new ways of learning. And GIZ FORCLIME is glad to support these efforts”. Moreover the E-Learning Conference was also an inspiring learning environment, with Discovery Demos, LAB Sessions, Spotlight stage, In-depth talks and Debates to name a few.
