The Indogreen Forestry Expo is a special annual forestry event that has been hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry since 2006. The theme of this year’s expo, which was held from 15-18 April 2015 at the Jakarta Convention Centre, was “Dengan Gotong Royong Mewujudkan Kedaulatan Pangan dan Energi Terbarukan” (working together towards food sovereignty and renewable energy). At the Indogreen expo, FORCLIME presented information and shared knowledge related to its activities in the three pilot districts in Kalimantan: Berau, Kapuas Hulu, and Malinau.

During the opening ceremony, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MEnFor) also announced the winner of a FMU (Forest Management Unit) logo design contest. The competition for creation of an FMU logo was supported by GIZ FORCLIME to enhance public awareness on FMUs and their goal to achieve sustainable forest management through good forest management practices and organisation.

Additionally, FORCLIME also conducted a talk show on bioenergy from the forestry sector, its opportunities and challenges. Three resources persons were invited to present their opinion on the topic, namely Dr. Machfudz (expert from the Climate Change working group of the MEnFor), Rudianto Amirta, PhD (expert on bioenergy from the Mulawarman University, East Kalimantan) and KH. Irham Rofi’i (entrepreneur of bioenergy from Bangkalan district). The talk show, which has been attended by more than 70 participants from civil society, universities, government and non-government institutions, was moderated by Mr. Edy Marbyanto (Senior Adviser from GIZ FORCLIME).

The District of Kapuas Hulu is one of the centers of wild honey production in West Kalimantan Province. With the aim to enhance the capacity of this wild honey center, the local government of Kapuas Hulu District in collaboration with its partners (Tropical Forest Conservation Act Programme in Kalimantan, Association of Danau Sentarum Periau, KABAN community group, Riak Bumi Foundation, WWF Kapuas Hulu, PRCF Indonesia, FFI Kapuas Hulu, Jaringan Madu Hutan Indonesian, and GIZ FORCLIME) organized a training on quality assurance for organic products (Penjaminan Mutu Oganis - PAMOR) in February 2015. PAMOR is a quality assurance system for community-based organic products that was initiated by the Indonesian Organic Producer Alliance (Aliansi Organis Indonesia - AOI) as one participatory guarantee system for quality assurance of goods produced by small-scale producers. Quality assurance for wild honey from Kapuas Hulu is crucial for meeting the requirements of a competitive market and avoiding product forgery.

The training is part of the institutional strengthening programme for the Kapuas Hulu wild honey center. During the training one of FORCLIME’s senior advisers, Ismet Khaeruddin, guided the training as the lead facilitator.

Following the training that was attended by 103 representatives from wild honey producing villages, government and non-governmental organizations in Kapuas Hulu, a PAMOR institution was established in Kapuas Hulu.

To provide guidance on human resources development of Forest Management Units (FMU), from 2010-2013 the Center for Planning and Development of Forest Human Resources (Pusrenbang SDMK) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry formulated the Indonesian National Standard of Job Competency (SKKNI) for human resources in FMUs. The standard became then legally regulated through the Minister of Manpower and Transmigration decree No. 68 of 2013. Various parties have reviewed and analyzed the SKKNI and found some lack of accuracy and thus a need for improvement. Based on these findings, Pusrenbang SDMK, in collaboration with GIZ FORCLIME and the NGO Forum Komunikasi Kehutanan Masyarakat, visited the FMU Yogyakarta, FMU West Rinjani and FMU Berau in 2014 to collect inputs on the SKKNI, especially on topics such as community development, forest planning and forest utilization.

Site visit results from the three FMUs were presented during a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in Bogor on 9 February 2015. The FGD aimed to obtain inputs for improving the SKKNI on the aspect of community empowerment. The discussion was attended by 25 participants representing the Agency for Forestry Extension and Development of Human Resources (BP2SDM) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, NGOs, and international organizations. Inputs from participants were related to the need to add competence for strengthening community economic institutions and developing community entrepreneurship.

Results from the FGD were directly followed up by the Center of Forestry Education and Training and Forestry Training Center in order to be integrated into a training curriculum that is currently being prepared.
