As Chairman of the Coordination and Communication Forum of Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve (LLBR), the Regional Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) of Central Sulawesi Province has been holding a series of meetings in order to prepare a CBLL Periodic Review document since 2022. The overall aim of these meetings is to ensure that obligations stipulated under the Man and the Biosphere Programme - United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (MAB-UNESCO) are fulfilled in line with periodic reviews of biosphere reserves that are conducted every 10 years.
The latest of these meetings was held by the Central Sulawesi Province Planning Agency (Bappeda), led by the Head of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Mr. Subhan Basir, ST., MprojMgmt., as well as the Head of the Administration Section of the Lore Lindu National Park Center, Mrs. Arma Janti Massang, M.Si., and was supported by FORCLIME. The meeting was held in Palu City on 15 May 2024 and was attended by:
The Lore Lindu National Park Center, as the Secretary of the Forum,
The Regional Research, Development and Innovation Agency, as Coordinator for Conservation, Education and Training,
The Central Sulawesi Provincial Community and Village Empowerment Service, as Coordinator for Community Empowerment,
The Central Sulawesi Provincial Environmental Service, as Coordinator for Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly Development, and
The Central Sulawesi Provincial Industry and Trade Service, as Coordinator for the Verification and Registration of Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve Products.
The material that was discussed during this meeting was the third draft of the Periodic Review Report, as facilitated by Mr. Ismet Khaeruddin, FORCLIME Adviser on biodiversity conservation and Coordinator for Central Sulawesi. An additional facilitator was also drawn from the Forum Secretariat. The meeting aimed to review and strengthen the content of the draft Periodic Review document by adding data and attachments to the reports that had been provided by the parties. Many changes have occurred over the last 10 years (2013 - 2023) in terms of the prevailing sociocultural, economic and ecological conditions within the region. For this reason, it is necessary to update data from the parties in an effort to improve the draft LLBR Periodic Review document. During this meeting, stages for the accelerated completion of the 2023/2024 Periodic Review Report were also agreed.
This meeting will be followed up by other meetings in order to ensure that the Lore Lindu Biosphere Reserve Periodic Review document meets the requirements and is ready to be submitted to MAB-UNESCO later this year.
