With the goal of finalizing West Kalimantan's proposal for climate funding through the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the West Kalimantan Provincial government, working in conjunction with GIZ as an accreditation agency (AE), held consultations with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) and the Fiscal Policy Agency as a National Designated Authority (NDA) on 14 May 2024 at the Manggala Wanabakti Building in Jakarta. The MoEF representatives who attended the meeting were from the Directorate of Climate Change Mitigation, the Foreign Cooperation Bureau and the Planning Bureau. In addition, representatives from the Environmental Fund Management Agency (BPDLH) and the Environmental and Forestry Service of West Kalimantan Province were also present. The meeting was chaired by the Directorate of Climate Change Mitigation, Mr. Franky L. Zamzani, who provided input regarding the adjustment of the proposal, particularly in relation to the policies of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, as well as project governance. This coordination meeting between the parties represents a further step in the submission of improvements to the proposal based on input before it is ultimately approved and a Non-Objection Letter (NOL) is issued.
Preparations for the drafting of a climate funding proposal through the GCF have been underway since 2020. FORCLIME has been supporting the West Kalimantan REDD+ Working Group during preparations of this proposal. At the same time, various meetings, discussions and consultations have been held, including a coordination meeting with the GCF mission, which was held in November of last year.
After this meeting, a follow-up FGD will be held to discuss improvements to the proposal based on inputs provided during the consultations. In addition, increased coordination will be initiated with the Directorate of Climate Change Mitigation at the Directorate-General of Climate Change Control at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, as the project’s focal point.
