FORCLIME has been supporting the Forest Management Unit (FMU) Sorong Selatan in the development of its Long-Term Forest Management Plan (RPHJP) document since 2022. This activity got underway with a coaching clinic on the development of RPHJP for FMUs in West Papua Province, which was also attended by representatives from the FMU in Sorong Selatan. After the coaching clinic, FMU Sorong Selatan formed a Forest Zoning Team, which included FORCLIME, the West Papua Provincial Forestry Office and the Forest Area and Environmental Management Agency (BPKHTL) of Region XVII Manokwari.
The first coordination meeting of the team was held from 6 - 10 March 2023 at the West Papua Provincial Forestry Office in Manokwari. During the meeting, the team met with representatives from the West Papua Provincial Forestry Office in order to secure the necessary data for analysis, such as West Papua Provincial Spatial Planning and the West Papua Provincial Forestry Plan, as well as data related to watershed areas, forest fires, social forestry and other supporting data. During this coordination process, FORCLIME also provided technical guidance relating to the division of block and plot boundaries.
The next meeting was held online on 16 March 2023. This meeting aimed to review the spatial analysis of forest zoning in FMU Sorong Selatan and confirm the related data. The team met again at the West Papua Provincial Forestry Office in Manokwari from 24 - 28 March 2023 to validate the analysis results of blocks and prepare thematic maps for the RPHJP.
After the process had been completed, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held in order to present the final results of the spatial analysis of forest zoning. The FGD was held online on 14 June 2023 and was led by Mr. Reynold Kesaulija S.Hut., M.Sc., the Head of FMU Sorong Selatan. The FGD was also attended by the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in the West Papua region. According to the results of the FGD, the Forest Zoning Team will submit the analysis results in writing to the BPKHTL Region XVII Manokwari for final verification before inputting them into the RPHJP Information System (SI) owned by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
