2022 03 09 Public Consultation Macro Plan Conservation and Ecosystem rz 3

The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) has prepared a draft Macro-Plan for Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation or Rencana Makro Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistem (RM KSDAHE) which has been under discussion since November 2021. The draft has been improved based on inputs from participants through FGDs. As a result, the Directorate-General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) held a public consultation on 9 March 2022 via a Zoom meeting and YouTube live stream. The public consultation aimed to further discussions of the draft and to seek common ground with internal MoEF parties as regards the document and efforts to work together to implement the macro-plan.

The Director-General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation, Mr. Wiratno, opened the meeting virtually and delivered a set of guidelines which to addressed the strengthening of Indonesia’s commitment to engaging in biodiversity conservation. During this public consultation process, FORCLIME is supporting various experts (senior and junior consultants) who have been responsible for the presentation, development and drawing up of the draft macro-plan (RM KSDAHE).

The macro-plan sets out various directions, targets, policies and future strategies relating to natural resources and ecosystem conservation management. Conservation managers operating at both the national and sub-national levels will be required to refer to this plan during their work. Furthermore, the macro-plan outlines Indonesia’s position in international talks on related matters. The RM KSDAHE document is ultimately expected to become the basis for the preparation of the Strategic Plan and to be used as a guide in relation to efforts aimed at protecting the biodiversity of various areas.

The RM KSDAHE is a derivative document of the National Forestry Plan or Rencana Kehutanan Tingkat National (RKTN) 2011 - 2030 and has a lifespan of 20 years (2022 - 2042). The RKTN sets out plans for ecosystem and conservation management within protected areas.

All inputs gathered during the event will be accommodated and used as source materials during the finalization of the draft RM KSDAHE. This public consultation process will be followed up by a second public consultation process, which will be held with stakeholders outside the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Subsequently, once the macro-plan (RM KSDAHE) has been completed, it will then be further processed by the Directorate-General Forestry and Environmental Planning in order to be legalized as a ministerial-level regulation.
