“Currently, two of our Physics Department students are completing internships at FORCLIME. This is very helpful for the students, who will be able to develop their knowledge, particularly given that during the pandemic, it has been difficult to secure internships. Hopefully, more students will be able to join the internship programme in the future,” explained Noper Tulak, Lecturer at the Department of Geophysics at Cenderawasih University
Since 2019, FORCLIME has run an internship programme for students and fresh graduates that are drawn from universities in Tanah Papua, including Cenderawasih University (Uncen). To date, some 12 Uncen students have participated in the internship programme at FORCLIME, eight of these back in 2019. In an effort to extend this cooperation and to prepare a 2022 work plan, FORCLIME and Cenderawasih University held a meeting on 9 December 2021 in Jayapura, Papua.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Director of Forestry and Water Resources Conservation for Bappenas, Dr. Nur Hygiawati Rahayu, in conjuction with her visit to Jayapura. The meeting discussed the continuation of the internship program for Uncen students. In addition, Uncen’s contribution to support the implementation of FORCLIME activities in Papua as they relate to Social Forestry, studies on ethnobotany, sago development and local wisdom that can support sustainable forest management in Papua was also discussed.
